Dear Sir,

Hawke’s Bay Farm Cadet Scheme.

Your advertisement in the “Herald-Tribune” calling for applications for the ROTARY FOUNDATION TECHNICAL TRAINING AWARDS was brought to the notice of members of the Hawke’s Bay Farm Cadet Board at their recent meeting, and we should be grateful if you would let us have some information about these Awards, and whether our Cadets would be eligible to apply.

Briefly, the Hawke’s Bay Farm Cadet Scheme operates throughout Hawke’s Bay, and at present has 32 Cadets in training on various farms from Woodville to the Mohaka River. The term of the Cadetships are for five years for Sheepfarming and three years for Dairyfarming, and Cadets are transferred at least three times during their terms so that they receive training in various types of farming. Cadets undertake the Course in Agriculture from the Technical Correspondence Institute, and sit for the Trade Certification Board’s examinations in Farming.

Cadetships are open to both boys and girls, and at present we have three girls in training – two on dairy farms and one on a sheep and cattle farm.

Members of the Hawke’s Bay Farm Cadet Board would be grateful to learn if your Foundation embraces Farming, and what opportunities there would be for overseas technical training for any eligible Farm Cadets.

Yours faithfully,
VI Clapham
(Mrs. V. I. Clapham)
Secretary,
Hawke’s Bay Farm Cadet Board.
