Born Hastings, 24 March 1928, son of Arthur Thomas Garrick and Christina Nicolson (née Williamson); married Diana Valerie May Mosse, daughter of Cecil Edward le Clerc Mosse, 1953; four sons.
Education: Mahora Primary School, Hastings; Hastings High School; Victoria University, Bachelor of Science 1950, Master of Science 1953, PhD 1960.
Victoria University: Demonstrator in Zoology 1951-1952, Junior Lecturer 1953-1956, Lecturer 1956-1060; Res Association, Smithsonian Institute, Washington DC, 1960-1963; Victoria University: Senior Lecturer in Zoology 1964-1965, Associate Professor 1966-1971, Professor (Personal Chair) 1971-1987 (retired); several times Chairman of Zoology during 1970s, 1980s, also Member, Chairman of Leave Committee, PhD Committee; Emeritus Prof 1987.
