Retired District Court Judge
Born Napier 16 March 1926, son of Alexander Donald Gilliand and Ethel Maude (née Young); married Shirley McNab, daughter of William and Mary McNab, 1950; three daughters.
Education: College Street School; Palmerston North Boys High School; Victoria University, extra-mural student, LLB 1947.
Partner, Jacobs Gilliand and Flornetine, Palmerston North, 1953-1968; Stipendiary Magistrate/District Court Judge, 1968-1982 (retired because of ill health); teacher, lecturer more than 30 years: Palmerston North Tech High School (Accountancy, law subjects), Massey Agricultural College (Ag Law), Massey Vet College (Foundation Lecturer in vet jurisprudence), Auckland Law School (Courtcraft ethics, advocacy); Chairman, Visiting Committee of Salvation Army Inebriates Homes at Rotorua, Parnell, Auckland for many years (SA Order of Distinguished Auxiliary Service, 1980).
Recreations: reading, crossword puzzles.
