NEWS LETTER

With the festive Season rapidly approaching and another year almost past, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Greater Hastings members a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

This brief newsletter is designed to inform you of the proposed promotional and social activities your executive committee has planned for the Christmas period and next year.

10th December:   Our main Christmas promotion is for the benefit of our members.  This year Greater Hastings is staging a Christmas Party.  This party which is open to all members of our organisation will surely be a night to remember – Wednesday 10th December at the Travelodge Motor Inn (Hastings).  Commencing at 8 p.m., the evening will include a full buffet supper, dancing (good band) and all drinks – all for the price of only $5 each.

Tickets for the Christmas party are limited, so purchase yours now by contacting either myself (phone 68 026 bus or 66 468 pte, or Kim Wicksteed – phone 69 001 bus or 69 178 pte).

19th December:  Inner City Children’s Promotion –
Cultural Centre forecourt (5 p.m. to 8 p.m.)  This promotion will provide entertainment for the children while parents shop.

25th December:   Hospital visit – all children in hospital on Christmas day will receive a visit from Father Christmas.

2nd January:   Air New Zealand Polynesian Spectacular – an outdoor music festival at which Greater Hastings will provide assistance.

3rd, 4th, 5th & 8th January:   Talent Quest – Windsor Park Camping Ground – holiday entertainment for campers and visitors.

28th, 29th & 30th January:   Fantasyland Funtime – children’s entertainment.  Quizzes, novelty races and ‘on the spot’ contests.

1st to 18th April:   ‘Miss Highland Games’ Promotion – two weeks of concentrated activity for the contestants.

17th, 18th & 19th April:   26th Highland Games – preparations are well under way for these Games and once again they promise to be bigger and brighter than ever.  Owing to the large number of personnel required to stage the Games, I would be grateful of any assistance our members can offer.

June 1976:   Greater Hastings Ball – although primarily for our members, this Ball will be open to members of the public.

August School Holidays 1976:   Fantasyland Funtime – we will be staging another of these ever popular children’s promotions.
Open Industries Week – children will have the opportunity to take part in guided factory tours.

November 1976:   Proposed Spring Festival – this promotion, which will supersede the Blossom Festival, will be similar to the Arts festivals staged in Wellington and Christchurch.  Presented over a two week period it is envisaged to cover drama, arts and crafts, various displays and exhibitions (i.e. motor shows, boat shows etc).  As well as the arts being represented a large Gala Day and a cabaret will be staged.

As I mentioned earlier, this circular has been instigated to inform our members of the decisions made by the executive committee. This year we are fortunate in having one of the largest executive committees for some time.  Various sub-committees have been formed to organise and promote the activities we are involved in.

However, as Greater Hastings is a voluntary civic promotional group, it is important that we have the backing of our members.  If you think you can assist the organisation in any way please contact our Secretary, Kim Wicksteed on 69 901.

I feel that it is important that our members enjoy the benefits of being a part of the organisation, so over the next year we plan to present various social activities for our members.

Don’t forget our Christmas Party on the 10th December.  If you wish to attend, please contact either Kim Wicksteed or myself by 3rd December, 1975.

Kind Regards,
Graeme Bell,
PRESIDENT.
