Born Dannevirke, 17 July 1912, son of William James Halford and Elizabeth Jane (née Nicholls); married Una Fosella Goldsmith, daughter of Archer and Anita Goldsmith, 1937, two sons one daughter.
Education: Norsewood Primary School and Norsewood District High School.
Home Guard, Second World War.
Director, Norsewood Dairy Company, 1952-1960; Chairman, East Coast Wool Co-op (Dannevirke), 1973 -; Member, NZ Wool Spinners Limited, (Waipukurau), 1975-1981.  Member: Dannevirke High School Board of Governors, 1949-1973, Hawke’s Bay Education Board 1952-1982 (Chairman 1974-1982); Dannevirke Electric Power Board 1956- (Chairman 1958-1990), Dannevirke County Council 1956-1980, Palmerston North Teachers College Council 1974-1982, Norsewood School Committee 1943-1958 (Chairman 1945-1958), War Memorial Committee (Sec) 1956 -, Pioneer Museum (First Chairman) 1964-1986, Chairman, School 75th Jubilee Committee, Domain Board, Chairman, Centennial Committee, Sports Club (Sec).
