MRS. DAISY HORRELL (nee McRae) is a well known personality connected with National Dancing in the South Island.  She received her early tuition from Misses Winnie Robinson, Thelma Gillespie and Mr. Bob Clark, and completed her training with Mrs. May Wilson (nee Thorn).  For many years she was a well known teacher of National and Stage Dancing in Gore, but , since moving to Dunedin has confined herself mainly to judging, and to work with the New Zealand Academy of Piping and National Dancing.  For the past 4½ years she has been a Member of the Executive and the Technical Committees of this organisation and during this time has twice examined throughout New Zealand.  A recent appointment was Tutor of the New Zealand and Otago Reel Teams which danced before Her Majesty the Queen at Dunedin.

RULES FOR PIPING AND NATIONAL DANCING

1 – All Piping and Dancing Competitions will be run under the Rules laid down by the Piping and Dancing Association of New Zealand (Inc.)

2 – Championships in National Dancing will not count for points prizes.

3 – In the event of a tie for any Points Trophy it will be decided as laid down by the Rules of the Piping and Dancing Association of N.Z.

4 – Points for trophies will count: First 5 points: Second 3 points: Third 1 point.  In the event of a tie points will be divided.

5 – All competitors in Piping and Dancing MUST be registered and MUST produce Registration Cards before competing.

6 – B Grade in Piping.  Open to Pipers who have not won more than three events at one or more of the following major meetings: – Greater Hastings Highland Games, Timaru, Dunedin, Waipu, or Thistle Caledonian Society.

7 – Conversation with the judges by competitors or interested persons STRICTLY PROHIBITED.  Breach of this rule will lead to DISQUALIFICATION.

8 – Age limit to be computed as per Piping and Dancing Association Rules.

9 – The Judge’s decision in all competition matters will be final and the Committee reserves the right to delete any class or alter or adjust any prize money if necessary.

10 – The Stewards supervising the Dancing and Piping Competitions may request the judge not to consider any competitors whose Parent or Guardian or other directly interested person, acts in any abusive or offensive manner to any official or competitor during the gathering, and the Judge shall comply.

11 – Competitors in all classes must appear in the order shown on the programme.

12 – No taps or loose plates to be worn in Irish Jigs.

13 – Al dances to be dances to Pipes.

14 – All competitors must appear in proper National Dress.

15 – PROTESTS.  All protests must be in writing within 15 minutes of conclusion of the competition concerned, accompanied by a deposit of £1, which will be refunded unless the Judicial Committee decides that the protest is frivolous.

16 – All Competitors to have numbers.

ARCHERY DEMONSTRATION

RICHMONDVALE CLUB

This Archery display is given by six selected members of the above club.  The Officials are: –

Mr. R. Marden, President, and Commentator.
Mr. R. Hansen, Mound Captain.  Mr. T. H. Davies, Sec.

The demonstration comprises two events, the first being a “William Tell” Novelty Shoot.  As competition proceeds, description and scores will be given on Public Address System by Mr. Marden.

Event 2 will be a 30 – yard shoot on competition face, i.e., centre gold 9 points, red 7 points, blue 5 points, black 3 points and white 1 point.

MONDAY (Approx. 12.15 p.m.)

Event 1 – Club Members’ Competition at 40yds. range, using 4ft. 6ins. target face.

Event 2 – This will be a shoot at 40yds., using a special miniature face of only 18” diameter.  This target is similar in scores and colours to official target face of 4’6” diameter.  Scores will be given over Public Address System by Mr. Marden as each event proceeds.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY.

1 – Two drivers per trolley, two boys, two girls, or a mixed pair. One of contesting pair to be not over 14 years of age. and the other not under 8yrs, of age. COMBINED AGES OF PAIR NOT TO EXCEED 23 YEARS.
2 – Trolley must be HOME MADE.
3 – Pneumatic Tyres prohibited.
4 – Trollies will be subject to inspection, and will be issued with warrant of fitness on April 15th.
5 – Driver and Pusher must change places at each pit, -and Driver must pick up from each Pit one check card. These cards must be shown at finishing point.
6 – Size of wheels not to exceed 18 inches. All four wheels to be on the ground.
7 – Each Driver. Pusher and Trolley must wear number allocated prior to race.
8 – No motor or pedalling device to be used in Trolley.
9 – Route on entering Windsor Park – Turn right and follow track to finishing post.
10 – All trolleys must be at Willowpark Road at 10 a.m. on Monday. April 19th. The race will start at 10.30 a.m.
11 – All trolleys must be at Baillie Motors. Hastings Street, at 7 p.m. on Thursday. April 15th. to receive instructions, numbers, and warrants of fitness. Trolleys will then parade through Heretaunga Street.

NOTICE TO COMPETITORS:

All events will be run under N.Z.A.A.A. and N.Z.A.C.A. Rules.

Per the public address system, competitors will be advised to proceed to the starting post for the various events, and failure to obey will result in events being started without them.

Competitors are asked to assist by notifying the announcer of any scratchings at least five minutes before the event is timed to start.

In distance events a bell will be rung at the commencement of the last lap.

Competitors must leave the enclosure immediately after competing. Trainers will not be allowed on the field.

The referee reserves the right to make any alteration in the heats he may consider advisable.

Only those athletes who are registered with their Centres will be allowed to compete. Registered numbers MUST be worn.

Competitors in relay events after handing over baton must not move into adjoining lanes. Failure to observe this rule will result in prompt disqualification of team concerned and if thought necessary the re-running again by the remaining teams.

Any competitor who runs on the line will be disqualified.

The Manager has the right to re-arrange heats if necessary.
