Born Auckland, 25 October 1945, son of William George Hendery and Olive June (née Dodge); married Jennifer Evelyn Ramsden, daughter of Jack and Beatrice Ramsden, 1968; two sons one daughter.
Education: St George’s Preparatory School, Wanganui; Wanganui Collegiate School; Auckland University, BA 1968; Christchurch Teachers College, Diploma Teaching 1968; Massey University, Diploma Guidance and Counselling 1978; St John’s Theological College, Auckland, LTh 1983.
Assistant teacher, Kapiti College, Raumati, 1969-1970; Teacher, Tonga High School, Nuku’alofa, Tonga, 1971-1973; Head of Junior English, Rotorua Lakes High School, 1974-1975; Guidance Councillor, Rotorua High Schools, 1975-1982; Associate Priest, St John’s Cathedral, Napier, 1982-1991; Canon for Social Services, Diocese of Waiapu, 1989-1991; Dean of St John’s Cathedral, 1991 -. Involved with Napier Family Centre, HB Seafarers Centre, Napier Men Against Violence.
