Born Mohaka, Wairoa, 23 September 1917, son of Reverend Hemi Pareiha Huata and Ropine Hinemare (née Aranui); married Ringahora Heni Ngaikai Ybelle Tomoana, daughter of Paraire Henare Tomoana, 1946; five sons four daughters.
