John Raglan Maclean

Private John Raglan Maclean, son of Archdeacon K. E. Maclean and Mrs Maclean, of Hastings, who has been awarded the Military Medal. The citation in connection with the award stated that Private Maclean was an inspiration to his comrades during an attack on Mityiria Ridge, during which he showed great initiative and fearlessness under difficult conditions and heavy enemy fire. Private Maclean was educated at Hereworth School and Wanganui College, after which he joined the staff of the Bank of New South Wales in Hastings, being transferred later to Wellington. With his brother, James, Private Maclean left New Zealand with the Third Echelon.
