Karamu Scout District Letter 1977

The Karamu Scout District Committee is appealing to commercial and industrial organisations within their District, for support in the way of funds to enable them to carry out their operations within the Scout Movement.  The District ranges from Hastings (east of the railway line) to Havelock North, Clive and Haumoana.  It is the largest District in the Hastings Zone.

The District Committee has the duty of Leadership Training and Administrative support of six Groups with limited opportunity for self funding.  It has been operating in the past on a marginal budget from wastepaper sales and a levy on each of the Groups.

I consider that the District Officers are heavily committed carrying out their tasks and should not have the worry of fund raising in this way.  There are no boys attached to the District – they are within the control of one of the six groups, who are themselves raising funds.

In addition to this the committee have an extra burden looming up – that of outfitting the District Officers with the new look uniform which is being introduced by National Headquarters shortly.

Accordingly, I am appealing to your organisation to support the Local Scout District with a donation.  Further, I am planning that this will be an annual appeal within the District and accordingly seek your approval for a similar approach in future years.

The attached financial statement gives an indication of expenses that are experienced.  I estimate that an annual donation from your organisation of from $20.00 to $50.00 would be sufficient to keep the District progressive.  Thank you.
