Historian and Artist.
Born Waipawa 23 June 1919. Married 1946 Barbara Helen Wall; two children Crispin Robert (b […]), Rachel Margaret (b […]).
Educated Gisborne High School; Christ’s College, Christchurch; Victoria University College – Bachelor of Arts (NZ) 1949; Canterbury University College School of Fine Art 1936.
Journalist The Times Palmerston North 1937-40, war service 1940-44, assistant archivist Army HQ 1944-47, research officer Department of Internal Affairs War History Branch 1947-66 and Historical Publications Branch 1966-77, historian Historical Publications Branch 1977-79.
Author of a number of publications by Department of Internal Affairs and co-author Portrait of a Century: The History of the NZ Academy of Fine Arts 1881-1982 (Millwood Press, 12983).
Exhibited paintings in solo and numerous group shows, vice-president NZ Academy of Fine Arts 1970-75, 1977-83, councillor 1960-70, fellow Royal Society of Arts 1973.
Leisure activities include painting and photography.
