Education: Woodville District High School; All Black 1925, 1926, captain HBRU [Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union] team 1922 (holders of Ranfurly Shield 1922-27); past president NZRU [New Zealand Rugby Union]; member NZ Rugby Appeal Council 1957-
Retired general manager Nelsons, (NZ) Ltd, Hastings; director several companies; member Hastings City Council 1941-65; deputy mayor 18 years; chairman Napier Harbour Board; president  NZ Harbour Association; co-founder and chairman Lindisfarne College since 1952-; member board of governors Iona College 1944-; founder member Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay (PSSA) for Care of Children and Old People’s Home and Hospital 1946-; council member Hawke’s Bay Medical Research Foundation 1962-
