Thanks to James and Judy White the Napier Festival turned out to be a great success, managing to put all present at ease with their warm hospitality.
“I would like to tell you…”
“I would like to tell you something about the Pacific.
The ocean without end.
The myriad of crumbs of coral which we call islands. The “cocotier” (coconut pickers delightfully stooping towards the ocean. The reef on which the waves break in sprays of foam. And the lagoons, beautiful beyond all imagination. I would like to tell you about the humid jungle, of the full moon that shines on the volcanoes, and the awaiting. The awaiting. The eternal, repetitive awaiting…”
This is what James Michner [Michener] writes in his book “South Pacific” and it is in this context that we see splendid New Zealand. In this world, more and more polluted and over populated, it distinguishes itself for its purity and tranquillity.
“The eighth wonder of the world”? This is how Kipling defined it and this is how it is considered. The silver reflections of the alpine lakes unite themselves with the depth of the sea which surrounds it completely, in a scenery of green pastures, dotted by the numerous sheep and dandelions, with a background of majestic peaks covered in snow. A country which never stops amazing its visitors: Its genuine and friendly population, with an utter respect for nature; which is wild and fascinating;
magnificent stretches of white and desert beaches, spectacular volcanic activities, green and luxuriant forests, which invite you to take long and relaxing walks. Modern and cosmopolitan cities, immersed in their limpid atmosphere.
But most of all New Zealand is the land of Maori, an antique population that settled here about twelve centuries ago, and live peacefully with the rest of the population, mainly of English decent [descent].
These characteristics make New Zealand an ideal destination throughout the whole year, especially if combined with the special kiting event held in Napier in the North Island.
It is in these occasions that we discover a country where serenity and friendship are still represent great values in life.
Da un lontano passato, canti, costumi ed usanze sono riproposti perché il mondo moderno non dimentichi
From an ancient past, music, songs and customs, remain in the present.
