The Art Deco capital of the world…gateway to New Zealand’s Central North Island…marine playground…Mediterranean City of Sunshine…
The City of Napier boasts numerous such appellations and provides the visitor with a feature-packed holiday on the sun-washed shores of Hawke’s Bay.
Rebuilt after a devastating earthquake virtually destroyed the city in 1931, Napier enjoys some marvellously inspired architecture and claims to possess one of the most concentrated collections of Art Deco buildings. The city’s Marine Parade is a spectacular strip of gardens, parklands and visitor attractions that divide the business district from the rollers of the Pacific Ocean. Beyond lie the incredibly fertile farmlands that host many of the country’s most productive orchards and vineyards.
Napier welcomes the AIR NEW ZEALAND World Kite festival with all the warmth for which the district is famed. It promises a great event…and a myriad of other exiting options to share the unique appeal of The Art Deco City.
This spectacular event will be staged at Anderson Park, Napier on March 9,10,11 and 12 1995. Following the success of the 1990 event, it is anticipated that more than 500 international kite artists, kite makers and kite flyers will attend, representing some 20 countries.
Kites of every shape and size will fly, ranging from the beautiful to the bizarre. Many will be making their international debut, and there will be an excellent balance of competitive, acrobatic and recreational kite flying.
Over the 4 days, some 70,000 spectators will make this one of the biggest events on the New Zealand outdoor calendar.
To host them, Anderson Park will be transformed into an international outdoor village with marquees, hospitality tents and food stalls in proliferation.
Napier’s weather in March 1995 is expected to provide ideal kiting conditions, with warm breezes, blue skies and temperatures in the mid-20s confidently predicted.
