Born: Tarata, 15 April 1895, son of John M Laurent; married 1921 Ethel M, daughter of FA Homewood; 3 sons
Education: Hawera District High School
Cheese factory assistant to 1915
1st New Zealand Expeditionary Force 3½ years; VC 12 September 1918 (General Orders; for most conspicuous bravery, skill & enterprise. With party of 12 members located enemy support line very strongly held, completely disorganised enemy by sudden onslaught; 30 of enemy having been killed remainder surrendered, total one officer and 111 other ranks in all); joined Levin & Company after war; area commander Home Guard 1940-42; OC [Officer Commanding] No 47 Air Training Corps 1943-45
