Born Wairoa 26 June 1958. Married 1990 Karen Joy Armstrong.
Educated Wanganui Boys’ College; Otago University 1976-80 – BA 1978, Post Grad Diploma (1st class honours) 1980.
Formerly senior researcher/policy analyst for National Party in Opposition, tutored in Medieval History at Otago University, executive director NZ Speaking Union.
MP for Hawke’s Bay 1990-, chairman Government Caucus Employment Committee 1990-91.
Captain NZ University Debating Team 1979-80, 1983-84, NZ representative 1981-85, 1988-91.
Leisure activities include jazz, medieval history, debating, long distance running, cricket.
Address c/- 38 Meeanee Road, Taradale, Napier.
