COMMENDATION

ALL THINGS BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.

Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colours,
He made their tiny wings   Chorus

The purple-headed mountain,
The river running by,
The sunset, and the morning,
That brightens up the sky   Chorus

The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,
He made them every one   Chorus

The tall trees in the greenwood,
The meadows where we play,
The rushes by the water,
We gather every day   Chorus

He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell,
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well   Chorus

MINE EYES HAVE SEEN THE GLORY OF THE COMING OF THE LORD

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored:
He has loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible swift sword:
His truth is marching on.

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before his judgment seat:
O be swift, my soul, to answer him; be jubilant, my feet!
Our God is marching on.

In beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in his bosom which transfigures you and me:
As he died to make men holy, let us live to make men free,
While God is marching on.

He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave;
He is wisdom to the mighty; he is succour to the brave:
So the world shall be his foot-stool, and the soul of time his slave:
Our God is marching on.
