Letter 1958

Prime Minister
Wellington
New Zealand

28 July 1958

Dear Mr Buchanan,

You must forgive the delay in replying to the telegram which you addressed to me under date of 18 July. It was due to the fact that there was no name available on your telegram.

What was most interesting to me was the enormous quantity of draught beer that must be consumed at the Stortford Lodge Hotel. If half an ounce of beer is costing you £80 a week then you must have a lien on a large number of barrels. However, I am hoping the question of the price will be satisfactorily settled through process of law so that it will not be necessary to make any provision on the Estimates of the Government to subsidise the sales in such enormous quantities which you register as having been made by your establishment. It was pleasing to receive your telegram.

Yours sincerely,

W Nash

Mr L.H. Buchanan,
Stortford Lodge Hotel,
