Letter 1970 – Royal Visit Request

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
NZ

Parliament House,
WELLINGTON.

9 February 1970

Mr H. Poppelwell, J.P.,
206 Charles Street,
HASTINGS.

Dear Mr Poppelwell,

Recently you asked me to enquire from the Minister of Internal Affairs whether it would be possible for a member of the Royal Family to attend the Hastings Highland Games on Easter Saturday, 28 March.

Personally I am very much in favour of this idea and have made quite strenuous representations to the Hon. D. Seath, but I am afraid that I have met with little success. For your information I am enclosing a copy of the Minister of Internal Affairs recent memorandum to me, in which he makes it quite clear that it will not be possible to accede the the request.

Your sincerely,
Duncan MacIntyre
