Letter from Herbert E Grainger 1894

Messrs F Wilson & Co

Dear Sirs

Can you let me have the following lines early as possible

Mens canvas shoes 2/6 – 3/7   (2 pairs of 7’s Black)
Mens Plain Calf Derby Shoes 2/7 – 2/8
Mens Robjohns shooters 2/7 – 2/8
Mens Tan Bals Rivited 1/7 – 1/8 (wide)   same as the last sent
Mens Tan Shoes Russ leather 1/6 – 1/7 – 1/8 – 1/9   Dark colours
Ladies Buff instep straps 2/3 – 2/4 – 2/5 – 1/6 – 1/7   wide fitting with extra long straps for Maoris.

There is no sign of things stirring up for the Christmas trade; Badley & Co, & French & Co advertising special bargains in Boots & shoes. Clayton (N.Z C F.) makes out that he is doing a heavy trade in boots far more than in clothing he says.

I only took ₤12.16.9 last week. ₤2.10 which was old accounts. The fellow

that got me to order those 6’s Tan Bals has not come for them. I am kept going all day long keeping the stock clear of dust, have to do the windows twice a week to keep them clean, the dust blows in through the sashes I think; the rain gets in too so sometimes they are nicely spotted. I have not had time to tot up the amounts in the stock book yet.

I am
Yours faithfully
H. E. Grainger.
