THE GREAT HAWKE’S BAY ART AUCTION

As you can see from the enclosed brochure, the Hawke’s Bay Museum is shortly to expand.  We are eagerly anticipating the use of increased space, allowing us to provide enhanced educational services to our community, and improving our collection storage and exhibition display space.

Naturally all of this costs!  In the case of the Hawke’s Bay Museum project we need to raise $880,000 to make it possible.  In August 1993 the Trust intends to hold The Great Hawke’s Bay Art Auction and we are inviting all artists, such as yourself, who have: – a regional association with the Hawke’s Bay Museum, – have exhibited with us over the years, – or who have work purchased for the collection, to consider supporting us by contributing a work for the art auction.

We must stress there is no sense of obligation involved in this request but we would hope that many of the artists who have enjoyed their association with the Hawke’s Bay Museum or Hawke’s Bay Exhibition Centre would be in a position to contribute.  The auction will be conducted by a registered auctioneer and a small catalogue published with biographical details of each artist.  It is our intention to promote the auction beyond our region and we anticipate that it would be one of the main calendar events of the year in Hawke’s Bay.

If you feel able to assist, we would ask you to contact our Exhibitions Officer, Margaret Cranwell, or myself and return the attached form at your earliest opportunity. We thank you in anticipation that you will be able to join us in making this auction a wonderful financial success.  You will note that 20% of the sale proceeds will be returned to you and we would naturally cover all freight costs involved, in return for your generosity.
