HASTINGS CROQUET CLUB

Dear Member,

I am writing to convey the Club’s thanks to you for your financial assistance with the installation of the automatic sprinkler system. I hope that you are as pleased as I am with the results produced by the system. Many visitors have complimented us on our lawns this season and much of the credit for this lies with you.

You will remember that, a year ago, we embarked on the project which was expected to cost $9,500. Then, when work started, it was found that a further $3,000 was required to sink a new bore.

We requested Club members to assist with financing the project by paying their subscriptions early, by giving donations and by loaning money, for the season, either interest free or at 10% interest. The response was magnificent and we were able to pay for the project by the start of the summer season.

By the end of our financial year (31 March) we had accumulated sufficient funds from other fund-raising ventures to cover most of the loan repayments promised for the end of the season – but the financial situation was precarious.

We therefore asked those of you with outstanding loans to consider donating all or part of the loan. Again your response was positive and most gratifying.

Then, in April, we received a reply from the Hastings District Council to our application (submitted last August) for funds through the Hilary Commission. We had been granted $2,000!

And, so, a grateful Club is able to repay in full all outstanding loans and to start the new year with some money in the Bank!

Again, our thanks. And, for those of you with loans to be repaid, a cheque is enclosed (with interest where applicable).
