“Service above Self – He profits most who serves best”

THE ROTARY CLUB OF HASTINGS.
President – R. V. GIORGI   Secretary – A.J.C. RUNCIMAN.

P.O. Box 10, Hastings.

NEXT LUNCHEON, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 23RD 1948, at 12.30 p.m.

Dear Fellow Rotarian,

We are very much indebted to Ernie for a really enjoyable and interesting job talk last Tuesday. We want two or three more job talks of this kind in our next half-year, and our ‘Programme Committee’ already has his eye on one or two likely fellows.

Last Tuesday, at President Ron’s request, I read to you the paragraph in District Governor Bill’s Monthly Letter for November on “Counteracting Uncertainty.” Here is another paragraph from the same letter, quoted at Ron’s request.

“NEEDS OF THE WORLD:   We do not need more national development, we need more spiritual development. We do not need more intellectual power, we need more spiritual power. We do not need more knowledge, we need more character. We do not need more law, we need more religion. We do not need more of the things that are seen, we need more of the things that are unseen.”

Rotary’s Growth – R.I. tells us that on October 20th of this year there were 6,622 Rotary Clubs, 320,000 Rotarians, and 91 new Clubs formed in 21 countries since July 1st, 1948.

Next Tuesday is a day to which we look forward with very keen interest and pleasurable anticipation every year, the day on which three of our young friends from amongst the High School Boys will be our Guest Speakers. It is an occasion not to be missed.

OUR THREE GUEST SPEAKERS from the High School will be:
E.P. BOYD (“The Significance of History”)
R.J. BLEWDEN (“Hamlet”)
A.T. HOWLETT (“Peace or War”)

THE THANKS of the Club to the Speakers will be expressed by ALEC

ORDERLIES ON DUTY – Speakers’ – FIP
Visitors’ – GUY and JIM Blair
Fellowship – DAVE
Mess – JACK Agnew, SEP, ERIC Wishart and CYRIL Wilkie.

AT THE PRESIDENT’S TABLE:   Bert O’Meara, Bill Patterson and the Mess Orderlies.

“V.I.P.”   (Very Important Paragraph,” to you)   If you are bringing a guest to lunch next Tuesday please be sure to telephone Archie (or me) before 10 o’clock on Tuesday morning, otherwise we might be letting our Caterers down, and we don’t want to do that.

Yours in Rotary,
WALLY
Editor.
