LUPP-ARCHER, Sybil Audrey nee Wellesley-Colley
Mechanic and Racing Driver.
Born Hawke’s Bay 1 August 1916. Married 1938 John Lupp (d 1945); two children – Beverley Anna Lupp (b 1940), Duane Sidney Lupp (b 1945); remarried 1969 Lionel George Archer.
Educated by tutor and in motor workshop.
Semi-retired, part-time interviewer for M.R.L. Research Group, formerly founder of family business servicing Jaguars and MGs.
First NZ woman mechanic and racing driver.
Awarded 1990 Commemorative Medal for services to NZ and women in the work force.
Foundation member Zonta.
Broke speed record for class F cars in NZ 1950, second in Lady Wigram Race 1950, 151 trophies at retirement from motor sport.
Founder of first NZ branch of MG Car Club, now life member and patron, Wellington branch.
Leisure activities include watching motor sport, driving, gardening, growing indoor plants.
Address 29 Rama Crescent, Khandallah, Wellington.
