Born Waipawa, 8 October 1941, son of Patrick James Lyons and Kathleen Mary (née Tierney); Education: St Joseph’s Convent, Dannevirke; Dannevirke High School; Holy Cross College, Mosgiel; Victoria University, BA (Hons) (Anthropology) 1979; St Paul’s University, Ottawa, Certificate in Social Communications 1980
Ordained Priest for Archdiocese of Wellington, 1967; parish appointments include Newtown, Waiwhetu, Onslow; relieving work in Avalon, Petone; associated with establishment of Catholic Communications, a National office of NZ Catholic Bishops Conference, 1976; Director, Media, NZ visit of Pope John Paul 1986;
Chairman, Churches’ Broadcasting (radio, TV) and PR work on behalf of Catholic Church, NZ. Creator/Producer, video programme for religious education
Publications: 14 titles 1982-88, for use in parishes, schools, privately; co-produced National media awareness project ‘Media Matters’ 1985
