Educated Palmerston North Boys’ High School; Victoria University of Wellington – Bachelor of Arts; NIDA – Diploma of Drama, Diploma of Film.
Active in community culture 1987-91, formerly teacher 1965-69, film director National Film Unit 1970-74, freelance in film and TV 1976-87, founder and director Theatre of the Eighth Day 1980-87, Amamus Theatre Group 1971-78.
Publications include plays ’51 (1972), Te Tutakitanga I Te Puna (1974) Gallipoli (1974), Ngati Pakeha (1985).
Awarded Best Actor, Karlovy Film Festival Czechoslovakia; Golden Prize, Pacific and Asian Young Filmmakers’ Competition, Iran 1975; winner Short Film Category, British Film Festival 1970.
Leisure activities include cricket.
