First Reading:   Old Testament Sirach 26: 1-4
read by Michael Nix

The Lord’s my Shepherd

The Lord is my Shepherd and I want to follow
Whoever he leads me, wherever he goes,
Over the mountains, the waters and byways,
Valleys and highways he’s waiting for me.

Refrain

I want to go to meet him there,
To lay myself down in his love.
The Lord is my Shepherd and I want to follow
Wherever he leads me, wherever he goes.

And while on the journey to where we are going
He promised to be there to help us along,
And over the mountains we’ll walk on together,
To know all the wonders he’s given to me.

Second Reading:   Philippians 1:3-11
read by Kerry Duley

Gospel:    Matthew 5:1-10
Father Joe

Prayers of the Faithful:   Debbie McKay

Offertory Hymn:

Come as You Are

Come as you are
That’s how I want you
Come as you are
Feel quite at home
Close to my heart
Loved and forgiven
Come as you are
Why stand alone?

No need to fear
Love sets no limits
No need to fear
Love never ends
Don’t run away
Shamed and disheartened
Rest in my love
Trust me again.

I came to call sinners
Not just the virtuous
I came to bring peace
Not to condemn
Each time you fail
To live by my promise
Why do you think? I’d love you the less?

Offertory Procession:    Peter, Jocelyn and Stephen Gascoigne

Ministers of the Eucharist:   Sarah Wadley and Moana Beveridge

Communion Hymns:

Galilee Song

Deep within my heart I feel
Voices whispering to me,
Words that I can’t understand,
Meanings I must clearly hear,
Calling me to follow close
Lest I leave myself behind
Calling me to walk into
Evening shadows one more time.

So I leave my boats behind
Leave them on familiar shores
Set my heart upon the deep
Follow you again my Lord

In my memories I know
How you send familiar rains,
Falling gently on my days,
Dancing patters on my pain.
And I need to learn once more
In the fortress of my mind
To believe in falling rain
As I travel deserts cry.

As I go into the night
Down the future of my years
I’m not sure I want to walk
Past horizons that I know.
But I feel my spirit called
Like a spirit deep within
Restless til I live within
Beyond the fears that close me in.

Strong and Constant

I will be the Lord who walks with you!
You will be always within my hand!
Take your heart and give it all to me,
Strong and constant is my love!
Strong and constant is my love!

Should you wander far from me,
I will search for you in every land!
Should you call then you will truly know:
Strong and constant is my love!
Strong and constant is my love!

When you know sorrow within your life,
I will come, I will embrace your heart!
Through your pain you will discover me!
Strong and constant is my love!
Strong and constant is my love!

Eulogy:   Gerard McKay, Tash Ward and Jocelyn McKay

Closing Song:

Heaven

sung by Hayley Westenra

A star shining in a universe far away
My heart knows that we shall meet again some sweet day
And you, you will be the flame that burns in my breast
And oh, I know just by knowing you I was blessed,
Yes I was truly blessed

Heaven, Heaven, ooh waiting there for me
Heaven, Heaven, ooh always let it be

So why, tell me why the good die young my old friend
I pray that heaven waits for everyone in the end
And love, love is how we cross that bridge to the light
A star that is what you are in my darkest night
Be always by my side

Heaven, Heaven, ooh waiting there for me
Heaven, Heaven, ooh always let it be

Heaven, Heaven, ooh waiting there for me
Heaven, Heaven, ooh always let it be.

Miss Me – But let me go

When I come to the end of the road,
and the sun has set for me.
I want no rites in a gloom filled room –
Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little – but not too long,
and not with you head bowed low
Remember the love that we once shared –
miss me, but let me go.

For this journey we all must take,
and each must go alone
Its all part of the Master’s plan –
a step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart,
go to the friends we know
and bury your sorrows in doing good deeds –
Miss me, but let me go.
