Senior historian Historical Branch Department of Internal Affairs, associate lecturer History Department Massey University; formerly defence historian Ministry of Defence; member Standing and Research Committees NZ Institute of International Affairs, managing editor NZ International Review.
Publications include Blue-water Rationale, the Naval Defence of NZ 1914-42 (Wellington: Government Printer, 1981), The Path to Gallipoli, Defending NZ 1840-15 (Wellington: GP Books, 1991), major articles in historical, international journals.
Leisure activities include cricket, golf, jogging, travel, reading.
