A Marriage of Wide Interest

FROM near and far, friends attended at St. Matthew’s Church, Hastings, for the marriage of Joan Marie, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs Leslie Monckton, Brenchley, Waipukurau, and Norman James, second son of Mr and Mrs. James McGregor, Rissington, Napier. Great interest was shown in the ceremony for the bride is a well-known member of the Hawke’s Bay Hunt Club and has gained many honours for her riding at hunts and shows. Canon C. Mortimer Jones officiated. The bride’s slim lace gown was cream in tint, finished with collar and belt of stitched satin and falling to train line. Her veil of cream tulle was arranged with a twisted satin and silver halo, and she carried an exquisite bouquet of scarlet anemones.

There were four bridesmaids – Misses Sylvia and Rica Monckton (sisters of the bride), D. White (Onga Onga), and Tui Morrin. They were dressed alike in picturesque frocks of yellow georgette flowered in large pink roses. They wore headbands of gold leaves, and carried  bouquets of scarlet anemones.

Mr. R. McGregor (brother of the bridegroom) was best man, and Messrs. J. Paterson, R. Inglis and M. Paterson the groomsmen.

After the ceremony about 200 guests attended a reception which was held at the Hawke’s Bay Service Club rooms.
