Formerly barrister and solicitor, senior partner Kensington Swan.
Council member Wellington District Law Society 1971-77, president 1977, 1978, council member NZ Law Society 1975-78, vice-president 1979-82, chairman Courts and Tribunals Council 1977-84.
Fellow of International Academy of Trial Lawyers, honorary member American Bar Association, member International Bar Association, FCIArb (London), FArbINZ, panel member of these and similar bodies in Australia and Hong Kong, FInstD.
Member Law Revision Committee, later Law Reform Council 1971-86, chairman various Law Reform committees 1971-87, member NZ Council of Law Reporting 1974-79, president Comunn na Piogaireachd NZ Inc 1970-.
Awarded Wellington Civic Award 1988.
Leisure activities include Highland bagpiper music, tennis.
