FORM AND ORDER OF SERVICE

All join in the processional hymn;

1.
Praise, my soul, the King of Heaven,
To His feet thy tribute bring;
Ransom’d, heal’d, restored, forgiven,
Evermore, His praises sing;
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise the everlasting King.

2.
Praise Him for His grace and favour
To our fathers in distress,
Praise Him still the same for ever,
Slow to chide, and swift to bless;
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Glorious in His Faithfulness.

3.
Father-like, He tends and spares us,
Well our feeble frame He knows;
In His hands He gently bears us,
Rescues us from all our foes;
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Widely yet His mercy flows.

4.
Angels in the height, adore Him;
Ye behold Him, face to face;
Saints triumphant, bow before Him,
Gather’d in from every race;
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise with us the God of grace.

Mr. W. E. Bate, Chairman of the Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board shall say to the Archbishop:

Reverend Father in God, on behalf of The Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board, and people of this Hospital, I request you to dedicate this Chapel to the honour and glory of God.

The Archbishop, entering the door, shall pause and say,

Peace be to this house and to all who worship in it.
Peace be to those who enter and those who go out from it.
Peace be to those who love it, and who love the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
AMEN.

The Archbishop:   Let the favour of the Lord our God be upon us
ANSWER:   And establish thou the work of our hands upon us
The Archbishop:  Unless the Lord builds the house
ANSWER:  Those who build it labour in vain
The Archbishop:  All thy works shall give thanks to thee O Lord
ANSWER:  And all thy saints shall bless thee
The Archbishop:  Our soul waits for the Lord
ANSWER:   He is our help and shield

Let us pray

Almighty God unto whom all hearts be open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid, cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of Thy Holy Spirit that we may perfectly love Thee and worthily magnify Thy Holy name, through Christ our Lord.   AMEN.

Be present, O Lord, with Thy people and hallow with Thy abiding grace this place of worship, which we dedicate to Thy honour and glory, and grant that all who in days to come shall worship here may find mercy and grace to help them in time of need, through Jesus Christ our Lord.   AMEN.

O Almighty God, whose blessed Son by His presence hallowed the feast of the Dedication of the Temple at Jerusalem; send down upon us Thy heavenly blessing; and because holiness becometh Thy house for ever, sanctify us we beseech Thee that we may be living temples, holy and acceptable unto Thee; through the same Thy son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.    AMEN.

Our Father…. for ever and ever   AMEN.

OLD TESTAMENT LESSON: I Kings 8.22-30. Read by the Rev. H. A. Mitchell.

Then shall all sing the hymn:

1
We love the place, O God,
Wherein Thine honour dwells;
The joy of Thine abode
All earthly joy excels.

2
It is the house of prayer
Wherein Thy servants meet;
And Thou, O Lord, art there
Thy chosen flock to greet.

3
We love the Word of life,
The Word that tells of peace,
Of comfort in the strife,
And joys that never cease.

4
Lord, Jesus, give us grace,
On earth to love Thee more,
In Heav’n to see Thy Face,
And with Thy Saints adore.

NEW TESTAMENT LESSON: Luke 4.14-22.

Read by Miss E. M. Hall.

THE DEDICATION

The Archbishop shall then say:

Since it has pleased Almighty God to put into the hearts of His servants to provide within this Hospital a Chapel for the devotions of staff and patients and as a witness to His wisdom, love and care; let us now fulfil the purpose for which we are assembled of dedicating this Chapel to His use and service.

To the glory of God the Father, in whom we live and move and have our being
To the glory of God the Son, who went about doing good, the great Physician of our souls.
To the glory of God the Spirit, the Spirit of truth, the Comforter of all in need.
We dedicate this Chapel.   AMEN.
