Minutes 1924-04-07 Inaugural Meeting

MINUTES OF PRELIMINARY MEETING.

A preliminary meeting of those interested in the formation of a Rotary Club in Hastings was held at the Chamber of Commerce Rooms at 11 a. m.  on Monday 7th April, 1924.

The meeting was presided over by the Hon. George Fowlds, Commissioner for New Zealand and the International Director – Charles Rhodes of Auckland was also present. Others in attendance were Messrs. Hobbs, Rowe, Hallett, Richmond, Whitlock, Gardner, Scott, F. L. Bone, G. F. Roach and G. H. Roach.

At the suggestion of the Commissioner the following Committee was set up to make arrangements for the inauguration and suggestions as to the most likely members for the different Offices of the Club.

The following were the suggestions for Office bearers:

President: W. Richmond    Vice-President: Charles Gardner

Treasurer: W. J. Rowe. and Secretary: G. H. Roach

Board of Directors: E. J. W. Hallett, H. R. French, Mason Chambers, W. C. Whitlock and A. M. Robertson.

Only four Directors were required and the fifth was added as an emergency.

After an informal discussion on arrangements for the Evening Meeting. This meeting was adjourned.
