MINUTES of Meeting of the Board of Directors held in the Secretary’s office on the 11th July, 1924.

PRESENT:   Vice-President Gardner (Chair) Treasurer Rowe and Directors Phillips, French, and Hallett. An apology was received from the President who was unable to be present.

Minutes of the Meeting held on the 30th May were read and confirmed.

CORRESPONDENCE:   Letter from Rotarian Charles Rhodes re inauguration of the Palmerston North Club. The President’s and the Secretary’s Letters of Greeting were approved.

Cable from Rotary International re membership. To be acknowledged.

Letter to Wellington Club approving date of Conference was read and approved.

Hamilton Club re Farmers Mortgages.  This was referred to Rotarians Rowe and Hallett for a report.

Letter from Brisbane Club conveying Greetings and congratulations. Received and to be acknowledged.

Letter from Sydney Club re proposed conference of Australasian Clubs in September. The Secretary to take the matter up with Napier Club at their meeting on Monday next re sending a joint delegate. Reply to be sent to Sydney Club approving suggestion, stating that we will endeavour to be represented but will let them know definitely at a later date.

Letter from Rotary International to President acknowledging Application for Membership and urging the President to keep the Club up to Rotary standards and ideals/ Letter to Secretary stating desire to help in any way possible.

Treasurer Rowe reported that the Bank Balance showed a credit of £89:18:2d.

Rotarian J. Phillips reported on behalf of the Fraternal Committee that it had made satisfactory arrangements for catering. The charge to be on a basis of an average attendance of 18 members at each luncheon.

An account for Auckland Rotary Club for stationery amounting to £7: 12/- was passed for payment.

Rotarian Hallett proposed that it…be recommendation to the next general meeting that Evening Meetings of the Club be held each quarter to take the form of a dinner and to take place at a date to be arranged. Seconded by Rotarian French and carried.

The question of the entertaining of the Chinese Soccer Team was discussed and it was decided that the matter be not gone on with. Members of the Board felt that the question was not within the scope of the club but that it is more a matter for other social and civic activities. A motion to this effect was proposed by Rotarian Hallett and seconded by Rotarian Phillips.
