ROTARY CLUB OF HASTINGS.

Minutes of Annual General Meeting held in Hawkes Bay Farmers Tea Rooms on Tuesday 31st July, 1956.

Present.   President John Holderness (in the chair) and 70 members.

Minutes.   Minutes of Annual General Meeting held on Tuesday 23rd of August 1955 were read and confirmed.

Annual Report.
The Annual Report which had been circulated to all members was taken as read.  Past President Bob Fish in moving its adoption spoke briefly on various aspects.  Joe Nimon Seconded.  The report was adopted.

Balance Sheet and Statement of Accounts.
Charlie Jackson, Treasurer, presented the accounts with brief explanations.  The Directors had decided to lodge a sum of £300 in the Hospital Board Loan.  This amount had been withdrawn from the Savings Bank account and the Bank of N.Z. current account.
Graham McCormick in moving the adoption of the above accounts congratulated the club on it’s running of the club’s affairs.  A sound financial structure was the sign of a sound club and he thanked the club’s officers on their good work.  Carried with applause.

Golden Book.
Hamish McPherson said that the New Girls High School had started a library and moved that a copy of “Rotary, Fifty Years of Service” be sent to them with the compliments of the club.
Carried unanimously.

Rotary Foundation.
Alan Grant remarked that through the year references had been made to the Rotary Foundation and continuing subscriptions and further support.  Would the Directors give some indication of what was required.
President John said that the matter had been under discussion and that the Foundation Fund would form the subject of a talk and then a plan drawn up for continuing support.

ROTA.   Preliminary moves in Rotary Overseas Travel Award had been made and clubs were asked for their attitude towards the scheme.  The following resolution was passed.
“The Rotary Club of Hastings approves in principle the ROTA Scheme subject to further information regarding frequency and destination”.
It was the feeling of the club that once in two or even three years would be more acceptable than annually.  The Secretary was instructed to inform D.G. accordingly.

This completed business.  confirmed   President.
