ROTARY CLUB OF HASTINGS

Minutes of meeting of Directors at the residence of President JOHN Holderness on Monday 20 August

PRESENT: President JOHN (Chairman) ERIC Russell, CYRIL Wallers, BOB Fish, ERIC Phillips, SID [SYD] O’Neill, CHARLIE Jackson, GORDON Roach, RAY Whiteman and LACE Kerr (Actg. Secy.)

APOLOGIES: FITZ Fitzgerald and TED Carne (arrived later)

MINUTES: Minutes of meeting 16.7.56 were read and confirmed.

CORRESPONDENCE: Inward correspondence was received and outward confirmed.

ACCOUNTS: The following accounts were passed for payment: –

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
(a)   CLUB   LACE reported on proposed visit from Waipukurau Club during City Celebrations and of discussions re Herald-Tribune Trophy.
(b)   VOCATIONAL   SID advised that future meetings are to be held on 2nd Thursdays and reported on certain matters at hand.
(c)   COMMUNITY   ERIC Russell intimated that the Rotary Collection for St. John totalled over £900. The Director expressed appreciation of this magnificent effort and a cheque will be presented at a luncheon meeting. Eric’s report also covered proposed aid for Plunket Society, Old Folks’ Association, Windsor Lodge etc. A Youth Committee is to be set up at next meeting. GORDON suggested a full survey re youth organisations.
(d)   INTERNATIONAL   On behalf of FITZ, President JOHN said the committee would arrange for speakers about

Rotary Foundation Scholarship. A suggestion that birthday “fines” be increased to 10/- (2/6 for Sunshine Funds and 7/6 for R.I.) was favoured by the Directors.

CLASSIFICATION:   Approval was given to opening the classification “Mixed Farming”, the hope being expressed that a suitable Maori candidate might be available. (P. LACE, S. SID)

D/GOVERNOR’S VISIT 4/9/56:   Chairmen were reminded to complete their reports urgently. All members are to be invited to the evening meeting. (P. BOB, S. CYRIL)

GENERAL:   Authority for TED and CHARLIE to act as Trustees for the National Savings account was given. (P. BOB, S. ERIC PHILLIPS)
Service at St. Andrew’s Church will be held on Sunday 26 August at 7p.m.

CONCLUSION:   The meeting terminated at 9:50 p.m. after which a delightful supper was served by Mrs. Holderness. Vice-President LACE expressed thanks to our hosts.
