INTERNATIONAL SERVICE COMMITTEE

MINUTES OF MEETING HELD AT THE HOME OF GORDON LEE

TUESDAY 18th NOVEMBER 1975

PRESENT:   Peter Young (Chairman), Graeme Clarke, Charlie Trask, Bryan Hutchison [Hutchinson], Gordon Lee, George Pacey, Cliff Cox.
By invitation: Bobby Chan, Lim Wang, Leong Meng.

APOLOGIES:   Paul van Dadelszen,

ACTING SECRETARY:   In the absence of Paul van Dadelszen it was moved Cox/Pacey that Peter Young act for this meeting.

MINUTES:   Minutes of the meeting held on the 14th October 1975 were read – confirmed.

MATTERS ARISING FROM MINUTES:   (a)   Fund Raising. The Chairman reported that the Trust had purchased a section and that negotiations were under way with a prospective purchaser.

COLLECTION OF PHARMECEUTICAL [PHARMACEUTICAL] PRODUCTS:   Discussion took place on the way and means of collecting antibiotics and medicines for use in Charity Hospitals in the Pacific and South-East Asian areas.

Graeme Clarke advised that Doctors frequently had a surplus of samples and unused medicines would be suitable. It was moved Cox/Trask that Graeme Clarke be responsible for organizing the collection by the first week of December.

Other Doctors in the Club and Members would provide assistance. Sorting and packaging to be under the supervision of Hamish McPherson and Drs. Art and Marjorie Nelson. It was agreed that when the medicines were collected and quantities known then suitable Overseas Clinics or Hospitals would be chosen.

BOARD FOR MALAYSIAN STUDENTS:   Gordon Lee spoke of the difficulty some overseas students faced in trying to find board while working in Hawke’s Bay over the Christmas period. The three guests spoke and outlined the general requirements. George Pacey noted some of the difficulties that were encountered when he was involved in this work some 10 – 15 years ago.
It was moved Trask/Pacey.

(1)   that Directors be asked to approve that the sum of $50.00 be allocated from the Project Fund for advertising for Board.
(2)   that a subcommittee consisting of Peter Young, Bryan Hutchison and Gordon Lee be appointed that they be empowered to try and arrange board for a maximum of 10 students from Massey. They were to liase with the Massey Malaysian Students Association.

ADDRESS:   George Pacey spoke to the members on some of his experience on Student Exchange.  He also outlined some of his activities on his recent world trip. The Chairman closed the meeting by moving a vote of thanks.

NEXT MEETING:   To be held on 9th December at the home of Charlie Trask. Members wives are to be invited.

Shui Yee, Gordon’s wife provided an excellent supper for which thanks were expressed.
