MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF DIRECTORS OF THE HASTINGS ROTARY CLUB, HELD AT THE HOME OF BRYCE JONES ON WEDNESDAY 17 MARCH AT 7.45P.M.

PRESENT: President Jim Redgrave, Jack Agnew, Don Patterson, Peter Single, Sam Rangiihu, Peter Young, Max Luttrell, Bill Langford, Gwyn Lewis, Bryce Jones, Frank Crist.

APOLOGIES: Brian Campbell, Colin Young.

MINUTES: of the February Meeting were read and confirmed. Minutes of the Special Meeting held on 16 March at H.B .Farmers’ Tearooms were also read and confirmed. Gwyn/Jack.

MATTERS ARISING:
1.   Binoculars for Te Mata Trust. Jim to investigate cost.
2.   Banners. Moved Peter/Don “That 200 be produced – probable cost about $1.60, to be retailed at $2.00”   Passed.
3.   Rotary Car Stickers to be handed to President.
4.   Concerning Arthur Powell who had been granted exemption from attendance. It was pointed out that Arthur was incorrectly exempted, and that Secretary must inform Arthur that the previous motion had been rescinded. (Requirements 65 years of age and 20 years of membership).
5.   Possible membership of Gordon Wattie and Errol Butcher to be deferred 6 months.

CORRESPONDENCE:
1.   From Paeroa Rotary Club stating that reprinting of Rotary Song Book quite uneconomic.
2.   From Otorohanga Rotary Club requesting autographs.
3.   Thanks from I.H.C . Soc. Napier for supplying a Kite.
4.   Acknowledgment from City Librarian for donation copy of “Rotary in New Zealand”.
5.   From R.Y.L.A. giving information – handed to Frank Darroch.
6.   From Federated Farmers of N.Z. concerning H.B. Farm Cadet Scheme. Handed to Cliff Cox.
7.   From Conference Publicity Officer giving Conference information.
8.   From Rotary Club of Napier informing of their Change-over date – viz . 28 June.
9.   From Chinese Association – thanks for Kite which, with others, were raffled to raise $118.00 for the I.H.C.
10.   From Bill Patterson – thanks for flowers and good wishes during his Hospital stay.
11.   Minutes from Rehabilitation League of N.Z’s February Meeting.
12.   Hart’s notice of Mr Richard’s visit to H.B.
13.   Blood Donor Drive for 25 & 26 March. Information leaflet.
14.   Rotary Club of SUNGAI PATANI, West Malaysia requesting assistance from the raffling of a “Rotary” shirt.
15.   Dael Therklesen [Therkleson] requesting change of classification. Peter S./Bill “That letter be referred to Classification Committee”. Passed.
16.   From J. W. Taylor giving up-to-date information on prices of Rotary regalia.
17.   Stortford Lodge Rotary Club forwarding letter requesting assistance for Church Organ funds. Moved Peter Y./Bryce “That Frank reply suitably to the applicant concerning Rotary’s policy in these matters”   Passed.

2.   Arthur Giorgi regretting his resignation.
3.   To R.C. Wanganui enclosing $9.00 – purchase of Rotary Wheels.

7.   Stortford Lodge Rotary Club, enclosing $200.00 donation towards their major project – Infant Respirator for Memorial Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

YOUTH SERVICE COMMITTEE:
Minutes of March Meeting on file. Don reported briefly:
1.   Executive types needed for Rotoract.
2.   George has requested that Club sponsor a student (girl) from Kolding, Denmark.
Moved Don/Peter S. “That the Hastings Rotary Club sponsor Dorte Bojesen from Denmark for the 1976-77 Rotary Year”   Passed
3.   Interact at Karamu. Don is to speak to Karamu’s 5th, 6th & 7th Forms. N.B. Club is involved, and so Club approval required before possible formation of Club.

VOCATIONAL SERVICE COMMITTEE:
Minutes of March Meeting on file.
1.   Gwyn reported that Gala Day was a great success.
2.   Vocational cards’ up-dating is under way.

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE COMMITTEE:
Minutes on file – Peter reported:
1.   The House project.
2.   Liliana Coppetti from Argentina.

COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE:
Minutes on file – Bill reported on:
1.   Plunket Society Collection Day.
2.   Pakowhai Domain.
3.   Welfare Home.
4.   Town & Country Forum – Maraekakaho. Moved Bryce/Peter “That this be held on 27 April, and that sherry be provided for a social hour”   Passed
5.   Historic Places’ Trust.

CLUB SERVICE COMMITTEE:
Minutes on file – Peter reported on:-
1.    Recent inductions – Norm Hardy, David Wright, John Kennedy.
2.   A possible new classification. It was moved Peter/Don “That the classification Advertising (Newspapers) be opened”   Passed.
3.   Changeover night to be Thursday 29 June.

GENERAL:
1.   Leave of absence Sefton Campbell Moved Peter/Bryce “That this be granted for 4 weeks” Passed.
2.   Senior Active Membership Badges had arrived. It was left to Secretary to find out cost.
3.   After some discussion, it was Moved Bryce/Sam “That Eleanor Houtman be granted $200.00 to assist further violin studies”. Passed.
4.   Request for financial assistance for Church Organ. Secretary to write to Mrs Hamilton pointing out this was not the function of Rotary.

NEXT MEETING:   to be held 21 April. Venue to be announced later.
