ROTARY CLUB OF HASTINGS.

Minutes of meeting of Youth Committee at house of Cyril Wilkie at 7.45 pm Monday 12 April 1976.

PRESENT:
Don Patterson (Chairman) Ian Featherstone, Cyril Wilkie, Roger Bate, Ray [Rei] Apatu, Roy Batchelor, Frank Darroch, Neil Donaldson, Les Snookes, Ron Hendry and guest Liliana Coppetti – Exchange Student from Argentina and sponsored by Havelock North club.

APOLOGIES:
Gary Pike, Jack Dallimore, Jack van Boheman [Bohemen], Richard Watson, Sid [Syd] Young. (Joy Scarrott (new Rotaract President) Barabara [Barbara] Thomas (Exchange student – W. Germany).

MINUTES:
The minutes of meeting of 8th March were read and confirmed.

INTERACT:
Don reported that plans are for us to follow up in the school’s second term to promote the interest of students.

RYLA:
Frank reported the selection of three from 5 applicants. Standard of the 2 girls and one boy is very good.

STUDENT EXCHANGE:
Now is the time to consider arrangements for hosting of a Danish girl who arrives at the end of August and will attend Hastings Girls High School.

The committee discussed this matter of hosting generally and obtained also the benefit of our guest’s views thereon.

ROTORACT:
Ray reported on Rotaracts forthcoming activities and problems in conjunction with Highland Games.

Don reported on present position concerning organisation for Rotoract District Conference to be held in Hastings 30/7/76 – 1/8/76.

Assistance from Rotary is foreseen in the form of helpers at the Church for 350 people on Saturday 31 July. We will know more by next month’s meeting and will need to commit the incoming Youth Committee to this project.

STUDENT EXCHANGE:
Our guest Liliana Coppetti gave us a short but excellent talk about her homeland, Argentina and about her family. A very enjoyable hour of questions and discussions followed, and members were left in no doubt as to the charm, ability and maturity of this young 17 year old student, who well measured up to the very high standard of Exchange students to have visited Hastings.

CLOSURE:
The meeting closed at 10 p.m.  Next meeting at Ron Hendry’s home 10th May.
