Minutes 1976-12-13 Directors

Minutes of the Meeting of the Hastings Rotary Club Directors held at the home of Peter Single on Monday 13 December at 8pm.

Present.   President Peter Single, Pat Chamberlain, Ray Custance, Gary Pike, Charlie Trask, Don Patterson, Les Snookes, Frank Crist.

Apologies.   Jack Dallimore, Colin Young, Max Luttrell.

Minutes of the November meeting were read and confirmed.

Correspondence   Inwards received; outwards approved. Gary/Don. It was agreed that Secretary write a letter to Mrs Carne and family, expressing the sympathy of the Club on the occasion of Ted Carne’s passing. (N.B. Ted was Secretary of Hastings Rotary Club for many years.)

Club Service   Don reported. Club Day to be 25 January. John Eddington and Phil May to be invited to join Hastings Rotary this week. (Public Trust & Caravan Retailing, respectively). Enquiry from Len Webb re new Vicar of St Matthews. Visit by Club to H/N 14 February. Barbecue to carry on. Proposed Insurance General (Graham B Scott) to Classification Committee.

Community Service   Gary reported on “Eye Camera”

International Service   Charlie reported. Moved Charlie/Gary “That further investigation be made into the possible fund raising of $50.00 per member for the Eye Camera Project”. Passed.

Moved Frank/Charlie “That up to $20.00 be expended on a typically N.Z. gift for Youngstown, Ohio to commemorate the year of office of R.I. President, Robt. Manchester – a member of that Club”. Passed. (N.B. Youngstown sent $10.00).

Vocational Service   Ray reported on monthly meeting.

Youth Service   Les Reported. It was Moved Gary/Charlie “That 7 children from Mahora Primary School be sponsored by Hastings Rotary Club to attend Y.M.C.A Day Camp in Hastings 20-24 Dec – inclusive, at a cost of $6.00 per child viz $42.00”   Passed. Also Moved Peter/Les “That 10 uniforms costing $15.38 each be donated to Crippled Children, together approx $30.00

to purchase a refrigerator – these two sums (approx. $185.00) to be a Xmas Gift from the Sunshine Fund”   Passed

After some discussion about Camp Opoutama, it was moved Peter/Les “That the Club is totally committed this year, and would be unable to assist with sponsorship for Opoutama this year”   Passed. (N.B. We did help last year.) Secretary to write explaining the situation & declining.

Hastings Rotaract Conference.   After a discussion on the financial outcome of the 1976 Rotaract Conference, it was Moved Frank/Pat “That Roger Bate, Peter Single, Colin Young and Les Snookes form a sub-committee with power to act, to discuss the problem with Hastings Rotaract”   Passed

General Business.   Report from nominating Committee recommending that the following nominations be placed before the Club at their meeting on 14 December.

N.B. At the Club luncheon on Tues 14 December, the above were duly nominated as indicated above, and were elected. (The Directors for ensuing year nominated & seconded by Roger B/Bob F, and Pat Chamberlain/Bill P. respectively. These will then become the Club’s Officers for the 1977-78 Rotary Year.

Next Meeting   15 February – Venue to be announced. Meeting closed at 9.40pm, followed by Peter & Robin’s [Robyn’s] hospitality.
