Minutes 1978-04-10

Minutes of International Service Committee, held at Rotarian Des Peryer’s Office at 5.30 p.m. Monday 10th April, 1978.

PRESENT:   Rotarians Evan Hughes (Chairman), Bryce Jones, Des Peryer, Richard Watson, Peter Young, Les Snookes, Pat Stainer and Exchange Student Lynette Van Rooyen.

APOLOGIES:   Rotarians Colin Blackmore, Ed Bate, Ian Featherston [Featherstone], Ron Hendry, John Holderness, Bob Fish and Bert Worley.

MINUTES:   The Minutes of the Meeting held on Monday 13th March, 1978, were read and passed.

CORRESPONDENCE:   A letter was received from the Rotary Club of Petersburg, South Africa.

GENERAL BUSINESS:   Bryce Jones reported that he was continuing to work in the hope of organising a further shipboard meeting in the near future.

Chairman Evan had found that the likelihood of support for a “Progressive Dinner”, was rather luke warm, hence this possibility was shelved.

Our South African Exchange Student, Lynette, had brought along several interesting and attractive books describing life in her country and all Members present took the opportunity of asking Lynette many questions about life in South Africa, which she answered in an informative and pleasant manner. It was agreed that she is a good ambassadress for her country.
