HASTINGS ROTARY CLUB

International Committee Minutes of meeting 12.3.79 at Des Peryer’s offices at 5 p.m.

PRESENT:  Cliff Cox, Ray Custance, Ron Hendry, John Holderness, Evan Hughes, Owen Johnstone, Bryce Jones, Alan Kingston, Gordon Lee, Des Peryer, Les Snookes, Pat Stainer, Peter Young.

APOLOGIES:  Walter Borwick, Gordon Morley.

MINUTES:  Minutes of previous meeting 12.2.79 were read and confirmed.

CORRESPONDENCE:  Letter of thanks from Ken Calvert, New Hebrides concerning Saw Gulleter.

GENERAL:

1.   Shipboard Meeting
Bryce reported proposed meeting on board a Russian Vessel late February did not suit because of pressure of other Rotary functions at that time.  He is hopeful of arranging a visit on board another Russian vessel at the end of this month.

2.   G.S.E. Team – Southern Arizona
Ron briefly reported on this successful visit during last week in February.

3.   Car Clinic (Andrea Rusbridge project)
Peter reported on progress towards the second Car Clinic to raise funds for above project.  Brief details to date:-
Dates:  Wed. 4, 11 & 18 April and Thursday 26th April.
Cost:  $8 overall.
Programme:  All arranged, with experienced tutors to cover practical mechanics, petrol and oils, defensive driving, car insurance, etc.
Brochures and Advertising:  In hand.
Supper:  Committee members to attend on a roster system.
Expenses:  Mobil Oil donation of $75 should cover.
Subsidy:  Application being made to J.R. McKenzie Youth Foundation.  If not approved, Directors have approved sum of $200.

4.   End of Year Function
Ron asked members to give thought to an end of Rotary year social function.

5.   Rotary Foundation
Cliff reported on the general excellence of this year’s nominee Margaret Sowersby.
