MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE DIRECTORS OF THE HASTINGS ROTARY CLUB HELD AT THE HOME OF FRANK CRIST ON MONDAY 19 MAY AT 7.45P.M

PRESENT:   President Frank Darroch, Len Hoogerbrug, Ed. Bate, Jim Redgrave, Max Luttrell, Graham Scott, Hans Andersen, Colin Blackmore, Frank Crist.

APOLOGIES:   Roger Bate, Byron Brook, Jack Cooper, Colin Young.

MINUTES:   Minutes of the April Meeting circulated, were taken as read Frank D. / Jim.

MATTERS ARISING:   To be taken under Committee Reports.

FINANCE:   In Colin’s absence, no report.

CORRESPONDENCE:   Inward received – Outwards approved – Jim / Hans.

CLUB SERVICE:   In Jack’s absence, Frank D. reported.
1.   Some classifications – Insurance, Breweries, Land Agency are being explored.
2.   Moved Hans / Jim “That classification of Social Welfare be opened”.  Passed.
3.   Max to include in Bulletin the break down of the $4.00 being charged for Tuesday’s Luncheons – Meal $2.50, Project Fund $0.50, Hall Rent $1.00.
4.   Changeover Night at Racecourse Kiosk – Wednesday 2 July.
5.   “George Pacey Award” – Moved Ed. / Colin “That the final presentation made to Exchange Students just prior to their departure from N.Z. to their homeland, be named the “George Pacey Award”   Passed.
6.   Moved Colin / Max “That since the Masonic Hall is not available on 8 July, the Club visits Stortford Lodge that evening”   Passed.

COMMUNITY SERVICE:   Colin reported.
1.   Net profit from Auction was $1676.60. Moved Frank C. /Ed. “That this profit be raised to $2500 (from Project Fund) to conclude the Camberley Hall Project”   Passed.
2.   Moved Frank D. / Len “That Colin and his Committee be warmly congratulated on the Camberley Project success”   Passed.

YOUTH SERVICE:   Byron absent ill.
It was reported, however, that Frank D., Nigel Ross and Roy Batchelor attended the Rotaract Dinner.

VOCATIONAL SERVICE:   A possible visit by Len and his Committee to the Havelock North Club.

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE:   Hans reported.
Arrangements were finalised for meeting the Vietnamese Family and taking great care of them for their first few days in N. Z., especially in the matters concerning housing, Labour Department considerations, money matters, and ‘neighbourly welcome from Gordon Lee”, who looked after the family fairly intimately on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It was moved Hans / Colin “That a total of $700.00 be approved by the Directors to cover initial needs of rent, some purchases, and food” Passed. Moved Frank D. / Graham “That the whole Committee be congratulated on a splendid humanitarian job carried out”  Passed.

GENERAL/

GENERAL:
1.   Moved Graham / Jim “That the classification of “Education – Primary” be opened”   Passed.
2.   Leave of absence granted to Arnold Baker, after Frank D. had reported on his non-attendance.
3.   Moved Frank C. / Max “That Tony Cross, Tony Bone, Mike Barry and Ian Jaspers be granted leave of absence for overseas leave”   Passed.
4.   Moved Frank D. / Ed. “That Vel Velvin be granted indefinite leave of absence because of illness”   Passed.
