MINUTES OF INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE HELD AT THE HOME OF TONY AGNEW ON 9.2.81

PRESENT:   Ian McPherson, Tony Agnew, Ian Kilgour, Gordon Lee, Dael Therkleson, Graeme Clarke, Bryce Jones, Byron Brook, Keith Sands.

APOLOGIES:   Rest of Committee

BOOKS FOR FIJI:   Advertising prior to Christmas was nil. Meeting decided that efforts would be better directed towards Solomon Islands.

CHINESE MEAL:   Bryce Jones wrote to Chinese Embassy suggesting our function would be opportunity for Ambassador or staff member to speak to us – nobody at home!

Bryce approached Four Winds – $12 to $15 per head to do justice. General feeling price was acceptable provided evening could be sold to club e.g. suggest meal be described as banquet.

SHIPBOARD VISIT:   Tentative arrangements for visit in about a month.  Always a short term notice function.

VIETNAMESE FAMILY:   Perhaps evening supper, co-inciding  with opening of Gordon Lee’s proposed new restaurant could be appropriate.

RARATONGA [RAROTONGA]:   Ian to canvass established religions for donations.

FUND RAISING:   Minute from December meeting clarified – company mailing referred to providing group to package company reports or similar for a fee.  Involving ladies referred to other methods – baking cakes for auction at luncheon. Pick suitable theme – hot X buns at meeting prior to Easter – auction joke cake, etc. Ideas required for March meeting.

UNICEF:   Ian Kilgour brought to notice suggestion that a Service Club could call for people interested in forming a local Unicef Committee.  Letters from United Nations Association tabled indicating that committies [committees] closing because of lack of interest and shortage of funds.  Lukewarm interest from Committee pointing out that Save the Children fund was will [well] supported locally and that overlap of interest could reduce overall support.
