Minutes 1982-02-08 Youth Committee

MINUTES OF MEETING OF YOUTH COMMITTEE OF HASTINGS ROTARY CLUB HELD AT VEL VELVIN’S ROOMS ON MONDAY, 8 FEBRUARY 1982 AT 5.15 P.M.

PRESENT: Paul Jones (Chairman), Vel Velvin, Des Peryer, Rohan Kidd, Rei Apatu, Cliff Cox, Roy Batchelor, Bill Pascoe, Jack Cooper (Club Service Committee)

APOLOGIES: Len Hoogerbrug, Dick Seton, Peter Young, Selwyn Begley

MINUTES: of meeting held on 8 December, 1981 were read and confirmed.

CORRESPONDENCE:
Paul advised that a letter of thanks had been received from the secondary school student whose air fare to Christchurch had been paid by the Club on the Committee’s recommendation.

ROTARACT:
Paul reported that he had attended 2 recent meetings of Rotaract and it appeared to be in good heart.

Peter Young is to be asked to prepare a roster of Committee members to attend Rotaract meetings for the remainder of the Rotaract year.

A party of overseas Rotaractors will be visiting the district during early March. There is no Rotary responsibility.

Vel advised that the 3? Hastings/Napier young people selected for the National Youth Choir to go overseas were anxious to speak to a Rotaract Club. Paul will pass on the message to Rotaract.

BARBECUE:
Final arrangements were made for the Committee’s responsibilities at the barbecue on 9 February.

Indications were that about 120, adults and children, would be attending. About 17 from Rotaract were expected.

GOLF CLASSIC:
Paul advised that arrangements were well in hand for the tournament on 14 February.

With 130 entries to date and more expected, success was assured. 15 Rotaractors had offered to help.

REMAINING ACTIVITIES:
With the conclusion of the golf classic, activities for the rest of the Rotary year are –

– Club auction.
– Selection of Ryla nominees. Rei has arrangements in hand.
– Selection of Outward Bound candidates. Preference to be given to nominees of Club members and Rotaractors.

The meeting closed at 6 p.m. with a vote of thanks to Vel for the use of his rooms.
