Minutes 1984-09-04 Youth Committee

MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE YOUTH COMMITTEE OF THE HASTINGS ROTARY CLUB HELD AT THE OFFICE OF S STRUTHERS, WILLIAMS STREET, HASTINGS, ON TUESDAY, 4 SEPTEMBER 1984, AT 5.15 P.M.

Present   B Usherwood, C Blackmore, J Hurford, D Le Claire, G Pike, A Walker, S Struthers.

Apologies   S Brooks, R Custance, W Pascoe.

Minutes:   The minutes of a meeting held on 31 July 1984 were read and confirmed.

Twin Exchange:   Brian reported that whilst considerable early interest had been shown no students offered themselves for selection.  It was considered that the costs involved was the major deterrent.

Club Auction:   (a)   Following discussion at the last committee meeting members endorsed the view that the Club Auction should be continued.

Strong views were expressed that this was a service club which was not very active in fund raising activities, and that the club auction was a means for members to make their yearly donation.

It was agreed that the auction be held in November and that it be an extended lunch-hour with possibly ladies in attendance.  To encourage members to participate, those who do not bring an item for auction should be fined i.e. the auctioneer acting as Sergeant.

(b)   It was noted that Directors approved the auction proceeds be used for sending young people on ‘The Spirit of Adventure’.

Golf Tournament Charity:   A full discussion was held on a possible beneficiary for the Golf Tournament proceeds: members felt that most ‘established’ charities were adequately catered for, but no consensus was reached on a needy charity.  It was agreed to ask Directors if any requests for assistance had been made to the Club which could be considered.

General:   C Blackmore asked Brian to raise with Directors the length of Sergeant’s sessions at meetings as he considered them to be too long which affected the time for the speaker of the day.
