Minutes 1986-08-13 Youth Committee

MINUTES OF HASTINGS ROTARY CLUB YOUTH COMMITTEE MEETING

Held at 110 Frederick Street, Wednesday, 13th August, 1986, at 7-30p.m.

Present:   David Davidson; Ian Fastier; Richard Watson; Michael Dunk; Simon Gale; and by invitation – Christine Symes – President of Hastings Rotoract [Rotaract] Club.

Apologies:   Ron Walker; John Fitness; Murray Keane; Graeme Fear; Keith Brazier; Graham [Graeme] Robson; Brian Atkins.

Minutes of the Meeting of 9th July, having been circulated, were accepted as a true record of the previous meeting – on the motion of David Davidson and Michael Dunk.

Minutes Arising: This was dealt with under General Business.

Corresponsdence [Correspondence]

Outward:   R.N.Z.A.F. requesting Band’s support for the proposed Fantasyland Carnival.

Inward:   From the R.N.Z.A.F. declining the invitation.

General Business:   Carnival.

Unfortunately, Graham Robson has been intending to discuss the matter with us further, but was unable to be present, but various points were raised.

1.   Catering must be approached with care, as it is likely that there will be a new Caterer well set up in the Windsor Lodge Tearooms and adjoining Restaurant. Any other arrangement would have to be made with their co-operation.

2.   We need a prominent personality or feature event to act as a drawcard. Michael Dunk will look to see whether somebody of the stature of Billy T. James could be approached. David Davidson will look into the possibility of getting the Continental Band, or similar.

3.   Christine Symes indicated that Rotoract would be interested in getting behind the whole Carnival.

Rotoract [Rotaract]

Christine gave a brief rundown on the activities. They have already plans finalised for sale of Christmas trees. Their District Conference was a roaring success, and their plans to do the catering for the Crippled Children’s Camp is well under way.

Appended to these Minutes will be a Roster of Rotarians to attend Rotoract [Rotaract] Meetings.

N.Z./Australia Match Twin Exchange:   Unfortunately, our opportunity to discuss this with the District Governor has fallen through, and Michael Dunk will take it up further with Graham Robson,

Next Meeting:   In view of the real difficulties many members of the Committee[e] have in attending on Wednesday night, the next Meeting will be held at 5-15p.m. on Wednesday, 10th September, and a decision will be made to change the Meeting night if requested.

Closure:   The Meeting closed at 9-40p.m.
