MINUTES OF MEETING OF HASTINGS ROTARY CLUB’S DIRECTORS HELD AT THE HOME OF KEITH GARLAND, MONDAY, 8 SEPTEMBER AT 5 .30 P.M.

PRESENT:

President Graeme Robson, Rod Naylor, Derek Burns, Keith Garland, Len Webb, Don Patterson, Owen Johnstone, Colin Young, Frank Crist. [Charlie Trask]

APOLOGIES:

MATTERS ARISING:

To be taken during Committee Reports.

CORRESPONDENCE:

Inwards:

1.   From D.G. Brian Burmester thanking Robbie and the Club for their hospitality during gubernatorial visit to Hastings.
2.   Invitation to Altrusa Club’s Evening with Antique Specialist Trevor Plumley, 3 September.
3.   Application to J.R. McKenzie Trust by Hastings Rotary on behalf of N.Z. Audio Books Trust (Closes 31 May and pay-out in December) .
4.   From Eastern Suburbs Lions Club Wellington, seeking information of the H.B. Kite-flying Festival. This letter passed on to Taradale Rotary.
5.   Completed application form from Lee Barradell for an R.I. Scholarship.
6.   Application from Bert Eising for 3 months leave of absence – Moved Owen/Len “That this be granted”. Passed.
7.   From Bill Pascoe, requesting a “not counted membership” and leave of absence for the month of September. Moved Rod/Colin “That both requests be granted”. Passed.

Outwards:

1.   To Royal NZ Foundation of the Blind sending donation of $50.
2.   To Taumaranui [Taumaruni] Rotary Club sending $4.00 for First Day Covers.
3.   To Tom Ryan, Chairman R.F. Scholarships Committee, requesting application forms (for Lee Barradell).
4.   To R.D.U. making explanation for our position re 1986 subscriptions payment.
5.   To R.F. requesting amount required to complete payment in respect of Colin Young’s Paul Harris Sustaining Membership.

Moved Derek/Keith “That Inwards be received and Outwards approved.”    Passed.

FINANCE – Colin Reported.

1.   There was a deficit of $817.00 for the year ending 30 June 1986. A discussion took place as to annual subscription, taking into consideration the loss (as above), G.S.T., the low rate of the N .Z. dollar against U.S.A., and the saving of a fortnightly bulletin. As a result it was Moved Frank/Don “That Directors recommend to the Club that the annual subscription be increased by $15 to $150.00” (N.B. This is an 11% increase for a period greater than 2 years.) Passed.

2.   Concerning Bulletin costs, Don Patterson to report to next Directors’ meeting after discussion and negotiation.

Moved Charlie/Rod N. “That Finance reported be received.” Passed.

COMMUNITY SERVICE – Owen Reported.

Arrangements are well in hand for the Bowls Day, with good response from Hastings Rotary Club, together with other local district Clubs. Proceeds to be donated to N .Z. Foundation of the Blind’s Guide Dog Appeal.

YOUTH COMMITTEE

Charlie hopes to have an applicant (one of his employees) for Outward Bound.

GENERAL

1.   Lee Barradell’s application. Moved Charlie/Owen “That the President and Secretary constitute a committee with power to act.” Passed

2.   The “Meet the Candidates” Forum at the Council Chambers on Wednesday, 10 September at 7.30 p.m. was well in hand – Bruce Giorgi’s organisation. Any advertising costs will be borne by the Club.

3.   There has not yet been any response from the McKenzie Youth Education Foundation in respect of our application on behalf of Mrs Maafu.

4.   An invitation has been received from Hastings Karamu Rotary Club for a representative of Hastings Rotary to attend their 10th Anniversary celebrations at Bridge Pa on 4 October. Moved Frank/Owen “That Robbie be our representative and that a telegram of congratulations be sent.” Passed.

5.   The President has received the first communication on POLIO PLUS.

6.   More members (with wives) are needed to boost numbers for the Leopard Brewery visit on Wednesday, 10 September. Robbie to announce at Tuesday’s luncheon.

NEXT MEETING – 13 October – Venue to be announced.

The meeting closed at 6.45 p.m. with a vote of thanks to Keith and Molly for hospitality and refreshments.
