Minutes 1987-03-16 Youth Committee

MINUTES OF THE HASTINGS ROTARY CLUB YOUTH COMMITTEE MEETING

Held at 110 Frederick Street, on Monday, 16th March, 1987 at 7-30p.m

Present:   D. Davidson; B. Atkins; K. Brazier

Apologies:   Graeme Fear

Minutes: As previous Minutes were related to the Fantasyland Carnival, they were dealt with under General Business.

General Business:

Some feedback from Fantasyland Carnival had revealed the following points so far.

1.   Saturday is still the preferred day, for most people.

2.   The timing in the month would be better a little later.

3.   The timing in the day would probably be better a little earlier, (rather to my surprise).

4.   Publicity is expensive, and despite the very real contributions of 93FM, many people were not aware of the carnival. Suggested improvements were –
(a)   Wider radio distribution
(b)   The use of billboards at appropriate sites.
(c)   The use of banners in Heretaunga Street.

Keith Brazier pointed out that this would cost a great deal of money, and we should look for a sponsor to the order of $1000-00.

(d)   A further comment was that Rotary was not sufficiently identified on the day. The only large banner was that of the Petane Lions Club on the Barbeque.

5.   Marketing of food probably needed to be improved a little, as kebabs in particular did not sell until they were on display. Hopefully, we can get a little better joy with chips in future.
6.   The height of the stage drew some criticism, as some performers felt it was unsafe, and it did not help the sound projection. It was observed that the Noddytown staged some groups, in fact preferred grass rather than on the elevated stage.

Outdoor Pursuit Centre

After discussion, it was suggested that the Club become an associate membership of this organisation for an annual subscription of $5-00. This will be recommended to the Directors.

There being no further business, the meeting was closed at 8-30p.m.
