Minutes of Director’s meeting of the Hastings Rotary Club held at the residence of the Secretary, in Thompson Road, Twyford on Monday 17th September 1990  at 7.45pm

Present:
President Neil Donaldson, Brian Epplett, Tony Brooker, Mike Boyce, Rex McLay, John Eddington, Sandy Struthers and D. Burns (Secretary)

Apologies:
Frank Crist, John Mills, Gary Pike; approved.

Minutes:
The minutes of the meeting of 20th August 1990, having been circulated, were confirmed.

Change of venue:
President Neil advised he had checked further with the R.S.A. and now recommend we seek members’ approval for the change to be effective from Tuesday, 6 November 1990. It was agreed the meal charge be set at $7.

‘Spirit of Adventure’:
President Neil reported that K. Watson no longer needed financial assistance to sail on the ‘Spirit of Adventure’.

Charity Golf:
President Neil advised Ian Cameron is prepared to organise sponsorship support for the tournament. It was agreed to defer the selection of the charity(ies) to a special meeting.

Correspondence:

Inwards:
From District Governor, Jim Judd – thanking club for his visit; noted.
From Peter Standish – regretting his poor attendance, which will continue until October 1990. President Neil reported he had advised Peter to attend whenever possible.
From Norman Lowe – tendering his resignation. This was accepted with regret. Moved John, seconded President Neil.
From the Otahuhu Rotary Club – offering Christmas puddings at $13 each; noted.
From the Remuera Rotary Club – seeking support for funds for their research project to eliminate diabetes in children.
Moved Brian, seconded Tony, that subject to the agreement of the club, we donate $1000 to this research. Carried.
From Alan Scott – requesting leave of absence from 25 September to 16 October; granted

Outwards:
To Kowhai Special School, gifting $200 to their Sydney visit.
To the Hastings branch of the Arthritis Foundation, advising we were unable to assist with an organiser for their annual appeal.
To Telethon, enclosing a cheque.

The Inwards and Outwards correspondence was approved on the motion of President Neil, seconded Brian.

Treasurer’s Report
The Treasurer presented a schedule of accounts totalling $7,765.37.
Payment of these accounts was approved.

1991 Subscriptions – It was agreed the annual subscription be reduced to $150. Moved Rex, seconded Sandy.

Charitable Trust
President Neil advised Basil Brooker had agreed to accept nomination as a trustee; to be ratified by the Club.

Committee Reports

Club Service
Minutes of Frank’s August meeting filed.

Community Service
Minutes of John’s August meeting filed.
Approval was given for John’s committee to arrange an old folks’ outing in the autumn. Moved John, seconded President Neil.
Approval given to pursue a Town and Country Forum, possibly involving the Waipukurau Rotary Club.

Vocational
Rex reported his committee members were to ring business houses, advising them of people who are available from work schemes.

International
Tony reported on his visit to Jeremy Dwyer, who is keen for our club to again sponsor sending a teacher to China, by paying the return airfare and internal train fare. This was approved in principle.

Youth
Brian advised Rotoract is now meeting at ‘Braggs’.
He reported Rotoract’s active membership is only 15 members. Agreed our members be asked to supply names of young people who could be approached to become members.
Possibility peer support may be re–introduced into the Hastings Girls High School.
The committee is planning to send two young people to Outward bound. This was supported.
They are investigating the possibility of running a garage sale or monster street auction. Encouragement was given for further investigation.

The meeting was closed at 10pm.
