ROTARY CLUB OF HASTINGS

MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE HELD AT THE RSA READING ROOM ON TUESDAY 12 NOVEMBER 1990 AT 5.15. PM

PRESENT:  John Eddington (Chairman) Brian Atkins, Ian Cameron, Phil Gully, Alan Scott and Ian Lawson.

APOLOGIES:  Apologies were received from Hans Anderson [Andersen], Tony Cross and Ray Custance.

MINUTES:  Minutes of the meeting held on 8 October were approved.

MATTERS ARISING:  Te Mata Park – Redwood Trees:

John spoke to Miss Carr, Secretary Park Board re signs etc.  Letter subsequently received from Board suggesting Club representatives meet with Trust representatives on site.

Keith Brazier and Hans Anderson asked to act as convenors for this matter and try to progress.

Preserve Plant Earth – R I Project:
John has communicated with Presidents of Stortford Lodge and Havelock North Clubs re combined project.

District Governor, Jim Judd suggests Clubs combine in the planting project at Te Mata Park next autumn.

Simon Gale and Ray Custance to act as convenors to progress this plan.

LADIES PROBUS:  A letter  was received from Havelock North Ladies Probus Club requesting our Club to assist with the formation of a Hastings Ladies Probus Club.  Information on Probus, with an offer to assist was received from Jack Dunlop, District 993 Probus convenor.

Agreed the proposal be considered with a view to convening an “interest meeting” early 1991.

Convenor for this project are John Eddington and Bryan Hutchinson.

CORRESPONDENCE:  Letter addressed to Club Presidents was received from J R McKenzie Trust.

The Trust makes grants of about $3 million annually of which about $350,000.00 goes to district 993.

Clubs are asked to actively encourage applications for grants to the Trust by 31 May.

Bryan [Brian] Atkins agrees to act as convenor and encourage our Club to seek suitable applicants.

A letter was received from Lions Club thanking representatives from our Club who assisted with the collection for the Blind.

DIRECTOR’S MINUTES – 15 OCTOBER:

John commented on various items from the Director’s minutes.

CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT:

Proceeds from the 1991 Tournament will be donated to Hastings Citizens Bank (uniform fund) and Child Cancer.

MEMBERSHIP: Committees are asked to try and identify suitable persons for membership.

SENIOR CITIZENS OUTINGS :

Alan Scott and Phil Gully to plan this project for next autumn.

TOWN & COUNTRY MEETING:

Waipukurua [Waipukurau] Club to be invited to join our Club for meeting in Hastings.

Tony Cross and Ian Lawson were asked to be convenors for this event.

NEXT MEETING: To be held at RSA Club 5.15 pm Monday 10 December.
